A typical school career in Britain (homework)

Teenage school career in Britain:

First all children go to primary school until the age of 10. Then they start secondary education in which most of them attend a comprehensive school until the age of 16. All these years are compulsory school education. That means, you have to go to school and if your parents do not let you go, it is against the law.

When you are 16 years old, you can just leave school or you can take exams to get the GCSE, which stands for 'General Certificate of Secondary Education'. For that pupils have to study hard, also in most of their freetime.

After GCSE you can search a job or you can go to school for two more years. These years are called 6th form. At the end of these years you can get your A-levels.

For going to university you must have good A-levels. But when you have them you can go to university and start an academic career.

Catharina Fey

A British school career

A typical school career in Britain starts with Primary School Education at the age of 5/6. Then the pupils go to comprehensive schools and begin their Secondary School Education. Most of them are 10 or 11 years old then. Compulsory school education takes 11 (or more) years of their lives.

After that long time pupils in Britain can just leave school or take their GCSE exams and then leave school to look for a job or go to the 6th Form and do two more years of school. At the end of these two years they take their A-levels exams. Then most of them are around 18 years old.

If they pass their A-levels well they are entitled to go to university.

A typical school career in Britain

Children in Britain start school at the age of 5. For four years they go to pimary school, where they learn to write, read and calculate.

After that they attend a comprehensive school for secondary education.

They can leave school after year 11 and try to find a job. Most teenagers, though, take their GCSE exams (= General Certificate of Secondary Education). They have to have good wexam results, if they want to go to the sixth form.

The first year of the sixth form is the lower and the second one the upper sixth form. After two years of sixth form the students have very important exams, their A-levels.

If they have good A-level results they can go to a good university.

Every pupil in Britain has to go to school until he is 16 years old. That is when compulsory school education ends.

A BRITISH SCHOOL DAY

Hello,I'm Falk and I'm 14 years old. Today I woke up at 6 o'clock. I ate went to schsomething, took my school uniform and ool. I had 5 lessons until 13 o'clock. Than I went into the cafeteria and ate something. After that I had half an hour for myself. So I listened to a new CD, I bought yesterday. At 14 o'clock i had 3 more lessons until 4 o'clock. Than I went home and made homework until 6 o'clock. Now it's 7 o'clock and I watch TV. At 11 o'clock I will go to bed.

This is not one of the tasks I set but, what is more important, there are too many mistakes in your text. Ask a friend or partner to correct the text with you and put it in here again.

A typical school career in Britain.

At first British children have to go to primary school for 4 years. Those four years are called primary education.

Then they have to attend a Comprehensive school for 6 years. That is called secondary education.

After 10 years they have finished their compulsory school education so they can leave school. Or they can take their GCSE exams (GCSE = General Certificate of Secondary Education). After that they may leave school and look for work, but most pupils go into the sixth form with their GCSE. After those 2 years, they can take their A-levels, which they need to go to university.

School education in Britain

In Britain the children start their school career with 5 or 6 years on primary school education. Then they can choose between a comprehensive school or a school where you just can go if they pick you. When they finish S.E. they get the GCSE when they passed the test. That was their compulsory school education. Now they can choose between jobbing and going to school. When they want to go to school they can do the A-Levels and after that the now 16 - or 17 - year - old children can go to Lower or Upper (6th Form). When they passed that they can go to the university.

School uniform in Blomberg?

School uniforms in Blomberg

In Blomberg we have no school- uniform but you can say jeans and t- shirt are sth. like that because everyone wear it in school ... boy and girl! I wouldn't like school- uniforms at my school because I think it looks bad when everyone wear the same and it's boring to see the same all day...

School uniforms at our school in Blomberg

I think school uniforms at our school would not be such a good idea. First of all i think in some way it's senseless, because you know yourself to which school you belong and the others do not neccessarily have to know it, too. Evevn identical t-shirts or trousers shouldn't be established, because when you go on the school yard and see the same clothes worn from everyone everyday, it'll become boring after a while. And there are also many individualists on this school, so it wolud be really, really hard for them to match themselves to the crowd.

School uniforms in Blomberg?

Are jeans and T-Shirts good for school uniforms? Maybe they look a little better than normal uniforms, for example in Great Britain. If school uniforms must be wearing at German schools, I would like them, but it would be not so different then the clothes we wear at the moment. However, I don’t see any good reason to change the system.

T-shirt and jeans as a school uniform?

My opinion is that it would look stupid and I'd prefer the "British school uniform". For example: A black skirt or black shorts and a blue pullover - that's much better than a white t-shirt and jeans because a normal t-shirt wouldn't look like a real uniform. I think that if we would get school uniforms, we should get real ones - not ordinary clothes.

Jeans and T-shirt as school uniforms

In Britain the pupil wear school uniforms but not in Germany.I think we mustn´t have Jeans and T-shirt as school uniform because much pupil in my school wear it already! But I think it would be a difference between this school uniform because then, everyone wear the same jeans and the same T-shirt.Now all pupil wear different clothes. Also it would be very boring to wear everyday the same.So all in all I think it´s better to wear what you want to and not school uniforms who everyone have to!

School uniforms in Blomberg!!

We don´t wear a school uniform in Blomberg and I think it´s better so, because when everyone has the same clothes on, it would be boring after a while. In Blomberg we wear Jeans an T-Shirts for school uniforms. So everyone can choose which clothes are the best for themselves. And it woldn´t be boring after a while, because everyone wear different clothes.

School uniforms in Blomberg!

I think school uniforms at our school wouldn`t be a good idea! On the one hand many pupils at our school have not the money to buy expensive clothes and so sometimes this pupils will be harassment from their schoolmates, but on the other hand school-uniforms looks not so good then normal clothes! My opinion is not to change the rules of our school. All in all everyone should wear the clothes that he or she want! written by Philipp Breuer

Coment to Philipp Breuer's article

We think that Philipp did a very good article! We like it,that he used that many phrases, like:"on the one hand....but on the other hand",and "all in all".That's very good.

A COOL SCHOOL UNIFORM

I don't like typically school uniforms like in Australia or Britain, but a nice t-shirt and a comfortable jeans would be okay. They are a lot of people, though ,which haven't got the money for their uniforms or are totally against it. On the other hand a lot of pupils would be happy because now they are part of a group. I think we shouldn't wear school uniforms, because everybody has his own style.

A very good and interesting article and I have the same opinion!!!

School uniforms in Blomberg!

The most of the pupils in Blomberg don’t think that they wear a school uniform but it’s not right. The pupils often wear t-shirts and jeans. I think that they wear a school uniform witch is designed by themselves.

What´s about school uniforms?

In our school we haven´t something like a school uniform and I think it´s nice, because everyone can wear what he likes. We wear jeans, t-shirts, skirts or pullover for school uniforms. All pupils are looking different. So all in all everybody has his own clothes, his own style. If the school would decide that school uniforms would be coming in our school, I will respect it. Perhaps they would be looking very nice, so that everyone would like them?! But until we don´t have them, I don´t care about it.

Our opinion is that your text is very well, because you've all the important thinks in it and you have your own opinion. We agree that we will respect the uniforms,if there would be uniforms.written by Jana L. und Julia S.

Jeans and t-shirt as school uniform in Blomberg

I´m not really for or against this modern school uniforms. Everybody wears the clothes he/she likes and nobody is discriminated of his/her clothes. But maybe the pupils who haven´t got the best clothes and aren´t en vogue would like it. The others would like to wear their own clothes any longer. I don´t care whether we should wear a school uniform or not. But if jeans and t-shirt would stand a test and the clothes fit good it´s okay. And I think most would agree with my opinion, too. by Vanessa Köhring

SCHOOL UNIFORMS IN BLOMBERG

At our school we donnt have school uniforms. Everyone wears what he wants. YOur clothes are a kind of your inviduality so I think its better than buying school uniforms. Also some parents have not enough money for buying a school uniform. Written by Stefan Brunnert

SCHOOL UNIFORMS AT OUR SCHOOL?!

In Blomberg we have no school uniforms and I think it´s good because everyone has his own style and can show his own personality. When everyone looks like the other, it would be boring and everyday you look the same way.But I think there are also some pupils who would like it, for exmaple when they don´t have so nice clothes, they would be happy that they look like everyone else. But I´m happy that I can decide on my own what I wear and that I don´t look like everyone.

What about school uniforms?

At our school everyone can wear what he want. We haven't got something like an uniform, and I think that it's very good. You can wear the colour, the signs, the trousers and so on, whatever you want. You can show with your clothers, what you like, or don't like! And if everyone wear the same uniform it could be very lonely! Not everybody likes the same colours and the same signs.

School uniforms at our school?

In our school we don`t have to wear a school uniform. I think it`s good that we don`t have to do it because you can wear your own clothes with your own style. And you can`t see differences between schools, so there are no fights between pupils from different schools. And I also think that a school uniform is expensive, probably a lot of parents don`t have enough money to buy it. written by Marissa Gieling

School uniforms in Blomberg?

Here in Blomberg at our school, we have no school uniforms and i think that it´s good. Mayby the bulling at the school wouldn´t be so much because of the clothes, but i like it to have my own style and not to look like everyone else. It would be very boring when everybody look like the others. And not everyone like the same colours so you should can wear what you want. And when the Gymnasium, the Real- and the Hauptschule would have different school uniforms, you could see quickly, from which school the others come, so that would be harder for the teenagers from the worst schools to show that they aren´t so good like others. So thats an other aspect so have no school uniforms.

School uniform

At our school we haven´t got a school uniform. We can wear what ever we want. So the uniform consist of t-shirt, pullover, jeans and so on. we mustn´t wear the same colour like the pupils in england or the usa. I think it´s good that we haven´t got any uniform because otherwise all the pupils looks like the others and that is very boring. It´s good that we can wear the thinks we like because every pupil can show what he or she like and every other can see it, too.

School uniform on HVG Blomberg

T-Shirt and Jeans? That's no School uniform! I think we should wear Blazers in the same colour. The girls have to wear a coat and a panty hose with black shoes and the boys have to wear trousers. I think we should have the "ordinary" school uniform (like the ones in Britain) because T-Shirt and jeans is no uniform. It's something you wear every day! I think it would be something special, because nearly no school in Germany has got their own school uniforms. But on the other side: without an uniform you can be yourself and wear what you want!!!

by Clara Mittelgöker

School uniform in our school

Our school hasn't any school uniform. And that's very good, because when you wear the same clothes every day after while you can't see them anymore and when all the others wear that as well then it's still worse. I believe for some people in our school it's very important that they have there one styles and that they wear different clothes than the others. I think under some boys there is a kind of uniform because sometimes they wear the same t-shirts and jeans but thats more a mark of their favourite music direction.

School uniform at our school

I think the school uniform at our school is a good idea. When we have a school uniform at our school it wouldn't give envy between pupil because some pupil wear brand clothes and other can't wear it because they haven't enough money. When everybody has a school uniform you mustn't pay so much money for clothes. Everybody wear the same. Then pupil think we hold together. But I think when you see every day the same uniform you will hate it after a long time. In my opinion the school uniform should look modern. It should give jeans for boys and girls. Everybody should get 2 T-shirts and jeans because you must change them often. For winter every pupil should get 2 puloovers and a jacket with the logo of the school. written by Julia Liebhart

Comment on Velten's article

Our opinion is that his article is maybe a little bit too short but it's quite ok! He says that everyone wears a school uniform that he/she designed on his/her own. That's right if you think that we would get a t-shirt and jeans as our uniform.

Jeans and T-shirts as schooluniform?

I think it is good idea if we had T-shirts and jeans as school uniform because there they must wear a skirt, a suit, a shirt and a tie and this is very strict.

if we wear T-shirts and jeans it would look like leisure outfit not so strict as in Britian. School uniform is good because we do not have someone who wear very expensive clothes and someone who can not afford them. Nobody would be expel from the gruop because everyone would look the same! I think every school should itroduce school uniform for better learning and better social behaviour at school!

Freetime in Germany

Meeting friends is the number one interest for teens. They like it to going out together and having fun. Everyone also loves music, some prefer pop an hip hop, others prefer rock and Metal. Sport clubs play an important role for teenagers, too. Many girls go dancing and swimming and the boys like playing soccer. Here in Blomberg handball is very popular, because the woman play in the first league. Surely everyone likes partying and most spend much time at the computer for chatting. In general girls spend more time in the Internet than boys. For almost everyone it is important to communicate with their mobile phone, telephone or whatever. It is an expensive hobby, too.

Body Image

One-third of the girls in Germany are overweight and that is a problem. But some girls are skinny. That is a big problem, too because the skinny as well as the overweight girls often try to commit suicide. Often the girls have been bullied just because of their look! They do not feel good because they think they are ugly and they find more and more reasons to die. Many girls think they are alone and because of that they are feeling blue.

Teenage Germany

Clothes and looks

In Germany there are many different looks. Mainly it depend on the music they listen to or the sport they do. For example if you listen to HipHop you wear baggy-pants, long shirts and labels like Karl Kani, Pelle-Pelle,Southpole,G-Unit, Sean John, Phat Pharm, etc. if you listen to metal, you wear black clothes, long coat, t-shirts with prints of bands like Metallica and had long hair. And of course it is also important to wear designer labels for many teens. And in Germany people who have not got the money to buy the expensive clothes are often bullied by clothes. If you play football or other sports or if you are just interested in it you wear shirts and tracksuits. But you also wear clothes form labels like Nike or Adidas. So we think that Britain and Germany are not really different in fact of style. <<<<<<< <<<<<<< by Öauritz Kanne,Sebastian Illigens, Dennis Schlingmann, Jana Jerosch, Bianca Kalinowski and Vanessa Köhringby Lauritz Kanne,Sebastian Illigens, Dennis Schlingmann, Jana Jerosch, Bianca Kalinowski and Vanessa Köhring >>>>>>>

Mobile Phones in Germany =======

by Lauritz Kanne,Sebastian Illigens, Dennis Schlingmann, Jana Jerosch, Bianca Kalinowski and Vanessa Köhring

>>>>>>>

In Germany every second teenager between 12 and 19 years has a mobile phone. The reason is that everyone wants to write a SMS or phone somebody with it.

If you are in danger and you have not got a mobile you have a problem because you can’t call the police. So for that reason many parents buy their children a mobile phone.

When you have got a mobile phone, you are self-confident. You learn to save money because a mobile is very expensive. And that’s what you have to learn for later on already, because otherwise you are poor in future.

A lot of people have violent Videos. When somebody has got the latest mobile design it’s a reason for others to bully his/her.

On the one hand it’s good to have a mobile phone and on the other hand you only use it when it’s very necessary.

All in all you should have a mobile phone.

Bullying in Germany

Bullying is a kind of systematically angering. In Germany there is a kind of bullying as well. It is called “Mobbing”. The reasons for “Mobbing” are the race, clothes, music, religion and intelligence. For example we have an extreme intelligence guy in our class who is lisping. Every time when he says something, the others start laughing and make fun of him. In big towns the problem is much bigger than in small villages. Suicide after “mobbing” is also a big problem.
